The 100 meter long second flyover above the Rettteri junction on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai has been under construction. This is lengthier than the other flyover that is at present in use. There is already a 540 meter unidirectional flyover at the intersection of Jawaharlal Nehru Salai and Perambur Red Hills Road where the traffic flow is towards Koyambedu. There is heavy traffic hailing from Koyambedu towards this junction. The other flyover that is being constructed for reducing traffic will probably get opened by March next year.
Stretch in length
As a move to avoid constructing within the channel that takes excessive water out from the Retteri Lake, it is necessary to lengthen the flyover, say sources from the Highways Department.
A few months ago, the work got slowed down because of extended time period taken to shift the overhead power cables, underground sewers, poles for streetlights, etc. In a few regions, redesigning is also to be done.
While the original plan was to construct 20 spans, there are going to be additional spans and count to a total of 27. By the end of this financial year, the entire work will get over, say officials. As there is additional work, a request for extra funds will be sent to the state government.
