The central government has taken a decision to carry out some modifications in the Motor Vehicles Act. However, most of the automobile industry is against this proposal and strongly protested against it.
As most of the automobile industry and the various workers’ unions associated observe that there would be several adverse developments if the proposed modification on the Motor Vehicle Act is carried out. They have decided to go on a 1-day strike throughout India tomorrow – Tuesday, 7th August.
Apart from the unions of CITU and ATUC, other union organizations are also participating in this strike.
It has been announced that the state transport buses and autos and call-taxis will not operate from 6.00 AM to 6.00 PM tomorrow (Tuesday, 7th August).
All organizations and federations including Load Auto Workshop, driving schools and others related to the automobile industry are participating in this strike.
The General Secretary of the State government Transport employees union and the president of the Road Transport explained that they have been protesting strongly against the central government proposed modification in the Motor Vehicle Act. As a part of this protest, a 1-day strike is being observed tomorrow (7th August) on behalf of all automobile industry employees. Except for the ruling party BJP’s employee union, all other unions are participating in this strike.
So, all vehicles including buses, autos, and call-taxis will not operate tomorrow. It is expected that all the 3 Lakhs autos in the state of Tamil Nadu will not operate tomorrow. As for the Chennai Metro City, 1.5 Lakhs autos are participating in this strike.
There will be a protest conducted in front of the Chennai Anna Salai Post Office on behalf of all the employees` unions.
