Drinking water is very important is known. To meet the drinking water requirements, RO or reverse osmosis plants would be set up in as many as 2400 government schools in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Recently in the state assembly, chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, grabbed many eyeballs when he announced that state government had sanctioned amount of Rs 48.96 crores towards this RO project. Education department conducted review meeting in the month of April and in the meeting the education department requested the district collectors to set aside a portion of MLA constituency fund for this reverse osmosis project. The list of schools was sent to the rural development and panchayati raj department by the director of school education.
Recently an order was issued and according to the order the collectors were instructed to use atleast Rs 15 lakh from the respective MLA fund to install RO plants. It must be noted that by this RO plant water from the overhead tank on the school premises could be purified and used for drinking.
On 9th of August 2018, Mr. Pradeep Yadav, school education secretary, issued this order. It was also stated in that order that if funds are not sufficient then in that case collectors could use local MP area development fund also.
