The state government of Tamil Nadu has come up with new orders as per the Motor Vehicles Act, all the passengers travelling in 4-wheelers must wear seat-belts. Henceforth, the pillion riders in the 2-wheelers must wear helmet thus making wearing helmets for both riders mandatory.
However, these rules are not strictly obeyed by many drivers. So, K. K. Rajendran from Chennai Korattur registered a case in the High Court appealing that the state government should come up immediately with orders for making the above mandatory.
In this situation, this came up for enquiry before the panel of judges represented the state government and presented the announcement by the state government regarding making the above mandatory. He further promised that this order would be implemented strictly. Advertisements would be published and displayed in the various public media including newspaper, etc., in order to create public awareness about this.
Subsequently, the case enquiry was adjourned to 31st August by the judges.
Meanwhile, DGP Rajendran has issued a circular to all the district SPs to take immediate legal action in case the pillion riders in all 2-wheelers fail to wear helmet.
