Police registered a case against a slaughterhouse in Chromepet under Section 379 and 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle of any value or any animal of the value of fifty rupees). The action was taken when members of ‘People for Cattle Protection in India’ arrived at the slaughterhouse early Sunday morning after rumours that it was selling beef and veal illegally.

According to one of the activists, ‘When we went around 4.30 am, we saw they had already cut two cows and one was unconscious. They had hit the cow on its head with a sledgehammer. There were at least 30 carcasses. The place was stinking. There were bones, horns, blood and internal organs were thrown on the main road. Also, they did not have bills to show where they had bought the cattle from.’
