This year, there has been an excessive rainfall during the southwest monsoon season, especially in the southern states of Karnataka and Kerala. Kerala was flooded and inundated. Because of the excess rain and water supply, the yield of this year`s rice crop has increased considerably.
Further, due to the excessive rains, the dams in Karnataka needed to be opened thereby providing more than sufficient water required by Tamil Nadu for agriculture leading to higher yield in the rice crops. At the same time, the yield from the rice crops increased in the states of Karnataka and Andhra as well.
This welcome development has led to an unprecedented fall in the rice price in Tamil Nadu. The price of the 25 kg rice bag sold in Tamil Nadu has come down by Rs. 50 to Rs. 100.
