Though there are presently 3 Public Sector Undertaking s of the central government for the sales of cooking gas, it is Indian Oil Corporation which has the largest number of customers.
There are 40 Lakhs customers in the Chennai Region alone. Around 40000 LPG cooking gas cylinders are distributed every day.
In the present system, the payment while delivering the LPG cooking gas cylinders to the ordered house is to be made only by cash. This leads to the problem of change.
Further, the gas agency staff also demand extra money to deliver and indulge in quarrels.
In fact, there is a system in vogue where the staff demands a minimum payment of Rs. 50 extra while delivering the cylinder! The staff won’t accept if the exact amount as per the bill is given!
In order to prevent the above problems and also in order to encourage cashless transactions, a new facility for making payments through the Bank credit/debit cards/ paytm cards is to be introduced shortly.
A special training will be arranged for the delivery staff to handle this new facility.
Indian Oil Corporation officials shared the hope that with this introduction, the problems of demanding extra money and the problem regarding the money change.
