A pass in the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is mandatory to pursue higher courses offered by the central government institutions such as IIT, NIT. This consists of 2 tests – JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

The candidates who pass in JEE Main are eligible to write JEE Advanced.

The marks obtained in JEE Main are sufficient to join courses offered in IIT and NIT.  However, to join IIT,  a candidate needs to write JEE Advanced.

Until last year, CBSE was conducting the JEEs.

However, from the current academic year (2018-19), a new set-up, National Testing Agency, under the central ministry of Human Welfare and Development, will conduct all examinations such as JEE, NEET, UGC NET, etc.

Thus, NTA is set to conduct this year’s JEE. The 1st JEE will be conducted in January and the 2nd, in April.

The students who are currently studying in +2, need to write any one of these JEEs. However, if the students prefer, they have the option to write both JEEs.

Out of the 2, the JEE in which higher marks had been scored will be considered for the JEE Advanced Test.

In this situation, the 1st JEE is scheduled to be conducted in several phases from 6th January to 20th January. The online registration to apply for JEE is presently in progress.

The candidates interested in applying may visit the website of NTA and apply online before 30th September.

The details of the applying procedure, examination fee, examination centres, etc., are furnished in detail on this website.

The 2nd JEE of the year, scheduled in April, will be conducted from 6th April to 20th April. The details regarding applying online for this will be announced later as per NTA.
