Minimum bus fare Rs. 5 by MTC responded with the huge popularity

The public experienced yesterday the Chennai Metro Transport buses operating with a minimum bus fare of Rs. 5. When they started wondering why when this is already in practice, the public came to be aware that this was a new initiative taken by MTC. So far, no one has taken the responsibility for the rising petrol/diesel prices. When an appeal was made someone had to reduce this, they pointed out the prevailing dollar price and did not do any further! Only, the public is subjected to the hardship.

During January this, the bus fares revised by the Tamil Nadu State government after a gap of 5 years. There was a mixed response from the public for this. However, with the present trend of the ever-increasing price of petrol/diesel, the public is exposed to extreme hardships with the increase in rates for share auto, the prices of essential commodities, etc.

In this situation, MTC buses have started operating with a poster of Rs. 5 as fare. This initiative of MTC has met with a huge popular response from the public. There has been a remarkable increase in the number of passengers in MTC to be up by 75000.

With these positive results, MTC has now decided to operate an additional 300 buses in the city.

At the same time, the public put up a demand that the distance for the minimum fare of Rs. 5 should be increased.  This is under consideration and review. In a short time, another ticker ‘minimum fare Rs.7 is also to be displayed.
