A Red Alert warning has been issued for a very heavy rain forecast to the state of Tamil Nadu on 7th October.
What is Red Alert? Are there any other Alert Forms?
The Weather Bureau observes the various developments on the weather front and decides on the initiation of activities to be taken up accordingly and sends the same to the respective weather zones.
The categories of warning are classified as Red Alert, Amber Alert, Yellow Alert, and Green Alert.
Red Alert
The worst weather forecast scenario is categorized as ‘Red Alert’. When Red Alert is issued, the public needs to shift to safer places. The roads and electricity may get cut off in the Red Alert regions. As per the advice of the local administration, the public should avoid visiting dangerous risky spots.
Amber Alert
The next category is Amber Alert. With this warning, it is indicated there are strong prospects of worsening weather conditions and there are possibilities of the roads and electric power being cut off in the locality. With this warning, the residents living in low-lying areas must be prepared to shift to safer places.
Yellow Alert
In a similar trend as above, ‘Yellow Alert’ would be issued to indicate that the weather conditions are likely to worsen in the next few days. When this alert is issued, the transport and the traffic in that locality will get affected. Yellow Alert cautions about the prospects of deteriorating weather in the next few days.
Green Alert
The Green Alert is just to indicate ‘all clear’ and there are no more warnings regarding the weather.
