Chennai Metro Water body has found 13 new lakes to set up quarries. With these new lakes for drawing water the increasing demand of water can be resolved easily as expected by Chennai Corporation.
Manimangalam Lake, Ayanambakkam Lake, Nemam, Thiruneermalai Lake, Ayyappakkam, Sriperumbudur, Thenneri, Erumaiyur, Nanmangalam, Pammal, Pallavaram, Thiruneermalai, Nallambakkam, Thaiyur, Chithalappakkam, Mambakkam, Arasankazhani, Perumbakkam, Korattur, Erumaiyur, Nanmangalam, Pammal, Pallavaram, Thiruneermalai and Nallambakkam are the newly found lakes where the drawing of water has been planned.
The initial phase is to identify water bodies and inspect the potential opportunities to draw water for the public and other supplies. Then the main phase of operating the resources with the estimation of long term work would be commenced by Chennai metro water. A special team was set up for executing the study, analysis and planning for the drawing process. Managing director Ashok Dongre and executive director Prabhu Shankar was constituted to determine the entire work with the submission of drawing proposal to the government.
The Metro water department consults along with PWD authorities and IIT-M, Anna University institutions to study the water bodies before beginning the layout of quarries. The total capacity and retaining of the water bodies along with pollution abatement and land acquisitions will be analyzed followed by the determination of supply arrangements. All of these information and formed study will be documented into the plan before laying quarries for water distribution by the government.
