Deepavali special concession on Flexi fare charges

As a special concession on Deepavali festival, the flexi fare charges in several trains including the Chennai-Madurai Turantho train. The flexi fare is completely cancelled in several trains.

The Central Department of Railways introduced a special fare for tickets, to be known as ‘flexi fare’, in several important trains in the year 2016. This system was implemented in the Rajadhani, Turanto, and Shatabdi trains.

In these trains, after each stage of 10% berths being filled, the base fare of the ticket will be up by 10%. There would be an increase up to 50% of the fare as per the status of berths getting filled. However. This new upward revision of fares was not implemented in certain classes including the 1st Class air-conditioned.

In this scenario, the Indian Railways have announced a reduction in the ‘flexi fare’. This has been withdrawn 100% in 15 premium trains. The Department of Railways has announced the cancellation of special charges when there is a slack in the number of passengers in trains.

Apart from this, the special fare, which is presently 1.5% of the base fare, has been reduced to 1.4%. When there are instanced where only 50% of the berths are booked in 15 trains, the special charges are completely cancelled.

The central Railway Minister Piyush Goel has announced this news in his special Tweet on the Twitter as a special concession for the passengers on the festive occasion of Deepavali.
