As a part of women’s monthly cycle, menstruation or period takes place is known. Bleeding occurs in women during periods due to shedding of lining present in the uterus or womb. Menstrual blood is combination of both blood as well as tissues from inside uterus. There is nothing that could make a women feel happy during her periods as the days would be painful with mood swings, severe cramps, bleeding etc. There are period issues like PMS or premenstrual syndrome and menstrual pain etc and these could be treated at homes.
What is PMS or premenstrual syndrome?
Few issues takes place just before a woman get her periods and these takes place a week before menses start and disappear when menses start. This is PMS or premenstrual syndrome. Few symptoms of PMS are bloated stomach, cramps, tender breasts, hunger, headache, constipation, diarrhoea etc. It is important to mention that not all women get these symptoms but nearly 75 percent of women get these PMS symptoms.

By eating healthy foods:
By the intake of healthy foods the PMS symptoms could be alleviated. Consume foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains like oatmeal etc and avoid fried foods. Consuming calcium rich foods like dairy, green leafy vegetables etc would be superb. Those foods that have rich omega-3 fatty acids in them like spinach, olive oil, sesame seeds, pumpkin etc are fantastic.
By exercising:
Exercising in the form of walking or yoga for 30 minutes would be wonderful. By not being involved in exercise could worsen the PMS symptoms. Aerobics could also be highly beneficial in lowering PMS symptoms.
By avoiding salt, coffee, alcohol etc:
Intake of salt, coffee and alcohol could increase PMS symptoms more. So it is important to avoid them during the periods.
What is menstrual pain?
Many women experience severe menstrual pain and cramps in the abdomen during their periods. It is because of the shedding of linings from uterus due to muscles in the womb contracting.

Application of heat:
This is important way used in the homes to reduce the pain during periods. Here the heating pad or hot water bottle etc is kept on the affected portion for some time.
Oil massaging:
The menstrual pain could also be lowered by means of oil massage. For this essential oil diluted in a carrier oil like coconut or almond oil etc is taken and massaged over the abdomen part for a time of 20 minutes. Few essential oils that could be used are lavender oil, marjoram oil etc.
Intake of Herbal teas:
The anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect of herbs could reduce muscular contractions and provide huge relief from severe pain that occurs during periods. Herbal teas like chamomile tea for relieving muscle spasms, cinnamon tea for less bleeding, ginger tea for getting relief from pain could be consumed by women.
Intake of water:
This is very essential for women during their periods and byby drinking water they could stay hydrated and beat water retention.
