Seven neighborhoods of Chennai with waste transfer stations will be freed sooner claiming the disease spreading factors and stinky conditions of such wastes hub. Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar are the seven locations of Chennai which were working with transfer stations. The collected wastes from the streets and garbage bins were accumulated in these stations for further transportation. Now the latest announcement has cleared out these stations in the mentioned seven localities.

A new tender has been passed by Greater Chennai Corporation to introduce more manpower and trucks to clear wastes on a daily basis without any storage. The storage of wastes from the localities tends to create hostage environment for many spreading diseases and also the stinky conditions impact the nearby resident livelihood. Earlier the transfer stations were constructed with a budget of Rs 14 crores. Owing to various concerns the stations are now being removed and the corporation bringing in more waste management resource into the localities.

Rainy season make these collecting stations more worse leading to excess breeding of mosquitoes, unbearable smell and grounding for disease spreading factors. Residents have been complaining about this issue for a long time and now finally the stations are set to closure with possible solutions of more trucks and manpower to remove all wastes without any big time consumption. Also the dumping stations will be converted to bio waste energy stations said the sources of Greater Chennai Corporation.

Contracts will be divided for various zones based on the bidding and so these temporary collecting bases can divert the purpose with bio energy production rather than storing it for day disturbing the neighborhood. These stations were planned to be a dump before carrying to Kodungaiyur and Perungudi waste dumps where it is stored permanently before disposing. Several complaints have been raised earlier to manage solid waste in these big dumping areas especially at Perungudi where natural swamp lands and rare bird species gets affected.
