Just like how a clove of garlic is tough to swallow, the truth regarding the issues caused by consuming garlic is also tough to swallow. This article throws light on the various health issues that are caused due to the intake of garlic.

Garlic belongs to Central Asia and is a species belonging to genus ‘Allium’. Garlic is used as kitchen ingredient for its unique flavour is well known to us. Intake of garlic could provide us many health benefits. Not many know the fact that garlic consumption could also lead to many health issues in us.

Health issues caused due to excessive intake of garlic are

Liver issues:

Consuming high amounts of garlic could lead to liver toxicity though it has got antioxidants in it. It has been shown by some studies that when taken in huge quantities garlic could result in liver damage.

Bad odour or bad breathe:

The unique odour of garlic could become an issue when garlic is consumed in excess. The bad mouth or breathe could even result in people moving away from us. This could result in huge embarrassment for us. It is said that body odour and garlic breathe are the 2 main adverse effects on intake of garlic.

Nausea, vomiting and heartburns:

It is revealed that when we consume garlic in empty stomach then we could get issues like nausea, vomiting and even heartburns. Research studies have shown that intake of garlic could result in GERD or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Triggers diarrhoea:

This is also one major issue which we could get when we consume garlic in an empty stomach. The reports have stated that garlic is a gas forming food.

Increase the risk of bleeding:

The fact is the risk of bleeding gets increased by the intake of garlic and this has been proved by some studies in the University of Maryland Centre. Hence garlic must not be taken along with the blood thinning medicines like warfarin, clopidogrel etc.

Loss of vision:

Surprising right!! The truth is excessive intake of garlic could lead to bleeding inside the eye chamber or hyphema. Finally it could even result in loss of vision in us.
