The Pongal gift can still be bought by those people who had lost their ration cards by using Aadhar Card or the cell-phone as registered in the application.
Ration card is mandatory to buy the ration items from the ration shops throughout Tamil Nadu. The Ration Shop Staff will scan the ration card in the device known as PoS (Point of Sales) kept in the ration shop and then give the items.
The state government of Tamil Nadu has arranged to give a Pongal special gift package of raw rice, sugar, cashew nuts, raisins, and cardamom. These items will be given for those who had lost their ration cards by presenting their Aadhar cards.
An official from the Department of cooperatives and food explained in this regard:
‘The smart ration cards are being issued on the basis of Aadahr card only. Presently, the process of issuing new smart ration cards for those who lost the original is temporarily stopped. New smart ration cards may be given in some shops.
Complaints have also been received that some of the smart ration cards could not be scanned. So, those who have lost their smart ration cards or those who keep the smart ration cards that could not be scanned have to visit the relevant ration shop with the Aadhar card or the cell phone given for any members registered in the ration card. The ration shop staff will verify the same and then give the required items.
Otherwise, the mobile phone number will be registered in the device and then based on the OTP (One-Time-Password) received, the Pongal gift pack will be given. The task of issuing the replacement of new smart ration cards for those who have lost the same.’
