In the month of October one of the two mini buses connecting the interior parts of Pallikaranai to Vijayanagaram bus stand in Velachery was cut down and it made huge noises. The latest news is lone bus service was also stopped and the bus service has been scrapped totally. It is important to mention that the reason issued by the MTC to discontinue S 93 mini bus service was poor patronage. The residents and other frequent commuters were of the opinion that buses were crowded always and the patronage was good.
Mr. N. Sundaram, president of Federation of Residents Welfare Association, Pallikaranai, spoke about how the interior parts such as Kamakoti Nagar, Anna MGR Nagar etc do not have public transport and how minibuses did amazingly for the people to access the Velachery -Tambaram Main Road. The piece of information gathered was the residents in many areas now either have to spend money for autos or walk atleast 1.5km to reach the bus stop on the Velachery -Tambaram Main Road. It must be taken into account that the 2 minibuses that were present used to make 10 trips each every day.
A resident belonging to AGS Colony pointed out that many people cannot afford for autos as the autos were costly. He was unhappy regarding MTC who have stopped these mini buses and said MTC should have given a thought about the people who depend on these buses. He finally threw light on the mini bus service that was first launched in the year 2016 and said it was a boon for the residents.
It has been revealed by another resident that the bus service was erratic even before the October month. He then added that the bus service would not begin at the designated time and there were also no bus services in the afternoons. Action was not taken inspite of filing petitions with the chief minister’s cell was also confirmed by him. It was brought out by the MTC branch manager in Adambakkam that the second bus was operated despite huge loss in the revenue. An official belonging to MTC finally assured about the restarting of the second service after Pongal festival.
