Set of new rules for DTH and cable operators as per TRAI notification:
DTH subscribers inclusive of Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV and Tata Sky are to mandatorily select their channels by or before 31st January. However, there is a question as to whether there will be any blackout on 1st February.
The new set of rules as per TRAI notification is to break into existence from 1st February (today). In this system, the subscribers can pick their own list of channels and packs. Notably, the DTH providers (Airtel, Dish, Tata Sky, etc.) have already clarified their list of channels on their official web pages.
To note, TRAI, in its earlier statement had said that the transition from the old system to the new one is going to be seamless after 31st January 2019. There will not be any interruption or blackouts, it adds.
For instance, if a subscriber has not picked their respective pack as per TRAI framework, what is to happen? It is found that there won’t be any form of blackout of services. Airtel sources state that there will be no service termination on 1st February for customers who have still not selected their list of channels.
In the upcoming date of renewal, prior notification about recharge upgrade will be made. This shall be shared through SMS as well as on the official company website. There will also be a dedicated channel in the number 999 where these details are clearly displayed. There will be an articulate demonstration video in this regard.
