Chennai city to have grade separators in 15 junctions

Don’t be surprised when you come across grade separators in many junctions in the Chennai city in the future. The news is corporation of Chennai has identified as many as 15 junctions in Chennai city for building grade separators. It is said that an amount of Rs 1200 crores would be spent on this work. According to the civic officials the proposed grade separators would primarily be flyovers but might also have underpasses, after assessing the alignment of major infrastructure projects like Metro rail.

There is heavy traffic congestion in 15 junctions in Chennai city and the civic body has completed pre-feasibility study at these 15 junctions in the last week. A civic official revealed about how as many as 20 junctions were identified and how a study was conducted. He then shed light on how 15 junctions in Chennai city need grade separators to ease the traffic congestion.

It is brought out that Basin Bridge would get the largest grade separator among these 15 junctions in Chennai. The information collected is the facility spanning 1925 m would have 2 arms. Traffic congestion on Basin Bridge and GNT Road would be eased. The point is the grade separator is estimated at Rs 271 crores. At ICF junction and SRP Tools junction, smallest grade separators would be making their presence felt and it would be spanning 440 m each and the average width of grade separators would be 8.4. In each of the 15 grade separators, 2- way traffic would be permitted.

It is now revealed that the proposed grade separator at the ICF junction estimated at around Rs 61.99 crores would link Konnur High road with Dr. Ambedkar Road and ICF Link Road. By this traffic congestion would be eased in this place. With the Rs 39 crore grade separator facility at the SRP Tools junction, the flow of traffic on the Taramani Link Road,Rajiv Gandhi Salai and LB. Road would be eased. It must be noted that at the G.P. Hospital junction the span would be 740m and it would ease the traffic congestion on Anna Nagar 3rd avenue and New Avadi Road.
