According to the no-detention policy, no school is allowed to detain any student until class-8. But in a CBSE school in Adyar, an LKG girl child is detailed for reasons being her inability to write down alphabets and numbers.
In this regard, the school sources say the school decided to detain only upon her parents’ concern. However the parents say they did not give their consent at all, but had no other go than to agree for the move failing which their baby will get transferred.
The aforesaid incident took place at Bharat Senior Secondary School in Adyar. The 4 year baby girl hails from Thiruvanmiyur. She got enrolled with the school in June 2018. Her father claims the school has never shared her report cards thus far, nor did they share her progress in education from time to time. There were complaints about her skills to read and write. She however, reads alphabets and abled to write down 1 to 100 with ease, he adds.
Following the final exams conducted on 14ht March, the school called out for a discussion which was attended by the girl’s mother where the school had notified her that the results have got withheld. She was left with only 2 options which were to either get transfer certificate and join in some other school or let her baby study in the same class for one more year. So, the parents say they never had anything to do other than paying out the admission fee of Rs 15,275 and let their kid study in LKG once again in the same school. So, they gave out a letter of acceptance to detain the girl in LKG class, they added.
In the clarification issued from the school, they say they did not force the kid to study in LKG again, but that the parents wanted to do so. For this, the mother raises question as to why should she request so? The school has to return the paid fees amount and she wants to admit her child in some other school, she strongly says.
