Congress Party volunteers from Puducherry went on a fast on Sunday. They fasted to protested the burning of effigies of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The effigies were burnt during a protest against Sri Lanka for war crimes committed on civilians during their civil war against the LTTE. The volunteers demanded that those who burnt the effigies be brought to book.
The fast was held at Madagadippet and was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayaswamy. Puducherry Congress Committee President A.V. Subramaniam and the leader of the Opposition V. Vaithilingam were also part of the inauguration.
