Having promised that Aadhar will not be mandatory to avail the government welfare schemes/concessions, the central government passed the related Aadhar card bill in the parliament.

The Central Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad filed the petition modifying the Aadhar card (Aadhar Number serves as the identity of the individual)  and associated Laws.

While elaborating on this, the central minister explained :
As the implementation of Aadhar card related procedure were implemented rather strictly,  a reasonable saving has accrued to the government treasury. Also, the government finance has been saved in various government welfare benefit schemes and activities.

With the help of Aadhar cards, 4.28 Crores fake LPG gas connections and 2.98 fake family ration cards were identified and removed. Rs. 7.48 Lakh Crores have been credited to the savings bank accounts of the users.

This petition will facilitate that Aadhar would serve as the identity of the individual. This would not discriminate on factors such as caste, religion, etc. The personal data of the individual in the Aadhar card will be kept safe and secure. The government is resolved about the safety/security of data management.

Subsequently, the proposed petition was passed by voice vote. The central government has rejected the demand for the opposition parties to carry out certain corrections on this petition.
