GATE - 2020 Announced!

An announcement has been released for the written qualifying examination GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) which is meant for the graduate engineers to qualify for admission to the postgraduate courses M. Tech. (and Ph. D.) offered  by the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) at Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai and Roorkee and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Apart from this, various other public sector (central government control) undertakings also fill up the vacancies in their organisations based on the performance of the candidates in GATE and offering priority to those who have succeeded. Thus, this GATE examination serves in 2 fronts – pursuing higher education or a job!

GATE 2019 was conducted by IIT Chennai. GATE 2020 will be conducted by IIT Delhi.

The candidates who have completed graduate/postgraduate courses in engineering faculties are qualified to write GATE. Also, candidates who have completed the integrated 4-years Science courses for Graduates or postgraduates can also write GATE.

GATE is conducted online as a computerised test.

The interested candidates, belonging to SC/ST cadre or differently-abled category, will have to pay an examination fee of Rs. 750 and the candidates from all other categories have to pay Rs. 1500.

Eligible and interested candidates can apply online.  The application website will be active until 24th September.  It may be extended up to 1st October. However, the candidates applying during this extended period will need to pay an additional fee.

The option to change the examination centre is allowed until 15th November. However, an additional fee will be applicable for this.

The applicants are better advised to scan all the required documents/certificates in advance before applying online!
