Doll Arrangement Display (Golu) commences!

With the fast approaching festival of ‘Navaratri’. A doll display arrangement, known as ‘Golu’ in Tamil, was inaugurated yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd September) organised on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board at Chennai Kuralagam.

This dolls display, Golu is organised every year on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board with the main objectives of improving the life-standards of the craftsman in this doll-making industry and also facilitate the display and sales of their products.

Accordingly, the dolls display started in Chennai Kuralagam yesterday. The Tamil Nadu State Minister for Fisheries, D. Jayakumar inaugurated.

The Chief Secretary of the Department of Handlooms, Kumar Jayanth, presided over the occasion.

The State Minister for Khadi and Village Industry, Bhaskaran, awarded prizes for the top 3 craftsmen who sold the maximum in the last year’s display.

Divine idols of Gods, terracotta dolls and items, dolls made of sand, plants, and porcelain are the major attractions for the visitors.

The dolls on display/sales cost from Rs. 10 to Rs. 25000.

Dolls made from the different states in India are on display-cum-sales.

The dolls introduced this year include the Viswaroopam of Goddess Sivakami Amman, Nanganallur Lord Anjaneya, Sri Ramanujar, and Namakkal Lord Narasimhar.

The exhibition of dolls display-cum-sales will be until 17th October.

Visitors would be allowed free from 10.00 AM to 8.00 PM.
