Many students belonging to the Corporation schools in Chennai come late to their schools and irritate the teachers. It must be noted that inspite of several warnings issued to the students many students come late to the schools.
To keep an eye on those students who come to the school late, facial recognition attendance system has been installed now in two Corporation schools in Chennai city.
At Triplicane High road is present Chennai Corporation run middle school. It is revealed that the head mistress of this school, A. Felsia Sumangaladevi is very happy now. The reason for that was due to her students reaching school on time now. The superb information is this school has got strength of 450 students and the facial recognition system attendance has reduced the number of late comers.
Head mistress spoke about how she expected the students to be in school around 9:15 am in the morning and how 60 to 70 students come at 10 am. She expressed her delight and said the number of students who come late to the school has gone down to just 10 now. The facial recognition attendance system has been developed by Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency or TNeGA last month is known.
It must be noted that this facial recognition attendance system developed in-house by department of TN is the first of its kind. Information is this facial recognition system has been installed in another Corporation run school in Prakasam Road in T. Nagar.
Indian Institute of Management in Trichy also has this facial recognition attendance system. The point is this new system has been installed on experimental mode.
It was mentioned by an official belonging to TNeGA that the school students have to walk through the corridor where the facial recognition camera was present. He explained about how the students could walk in groups and need not even pause for a moment before the camera. It is important to note here that the students must make sure that their faces come within the frame of the camera when thehey cross it.
The head mistress Felsia Sumangaladevi later spoke about how this facial recognition attendance system is used along with the manual way of marking attendance. This new system would be active and functional till 10 am only.
It is important to note that the Chennai Corporation gives cash reward of Rs 1000 for students with 100% attendance in a year. This has made the students more punctual now.
Point to be noted is the cameras are not meant for surveillance and is kept active only for the time when attendance is marked. Based on the visuals, the software processes the attendance. Information collected is this facial recognition attendance system is used to mark the attendance of non teaching staffs in IIM Trichy.
