There is no need for Chennai residents to visit government offices for the purpose of getting sewage connections now. Just a phone call would do. The residents of Chennai could get sewage connections by dialling 044 45674567.

The good news is the sewage connections would be provided in just 15 days. This new scheme was launched 10 days back is known.

Till now, many men in the middle have been creating issues for the Chennai residents seeking sewage connections. This new scheme would eliminate this totally and the people would be benefited. It is said that the new scheme would also relieve the residents of the ordeal of getting permission for cutting the road from the corporation and police.

As per Mr T. Prabhu Shankar, executive director of metro water, sewage connections would be given in 15 days of time. He added that the department is aiming to reduce the connection time to 5 working days.

Various steps involved in getting sewage connections are the resident has to get registered with the metro water agency by calling the number. For this purpose, ID cards like Aadhaar or CMC number issued by GCC would be sufficient. After the resident gets registered, then the depot engineer from the jurisdiction would visit the house of the registered resident for inspection. The new scheme would be different from the older scheme.

A resident would have to pay a partial amount for the new sewage connection and has to get clearance from the police and corporation. This was in the earlier system.  In the new system, these works would be done by the metro water department itself.

It must be taken into account that the resident need not pay any amount as charge at the time of registration. The resident could make a single payment for the work or could pay the charges in 10 instalments also and this would be in the new system.

Point to be noted is charges for 500 sq ft house (treated below poverty line connection) would be Rs 100 per house and for 1000 sq ft house the charges/ unit would be Rs 5000. It is important to note that the charges/ unit for a 2000 sq ft house would be Rs 7500. For connecting pipes, road cut and for restoration etc, the resident has to pay the amount.

The residents belonging to places like Royapuram, Tondiarpet, Teynampet, Thiru- Vi- Ka Nagar, T.Nagar, Anna Nagar and Adyar could feel happy now as they would have the new system.
