Chennai Central station is always crowded because many people go to other places from here.
Presently, an amount of Rs 10 is being collected as the platform ticket at Chennai Central. Beginning from 1st of April, the cost of the platform ticket would be Rs 15 and this would be a period of 3 months.
The summer season would begin and the traffic would be at its peak at that month of April. Hence the platform ticket rates have been increased with the objective of de-congesting the platforms and help in the easy movement of originating as well as terminating passengers.
It must not be forgotten that in the month of March in 2015 the railway board had increased the cost of the platform ticket from Rs 5 to Rs 10 and empowered various divisions to increase the cost above Rs 10 for regulating rush during any specific requirement.
In accordance with the power delegated by the board, the latest increase in the prices has been done. At the booking office at More Market Complex, the platform tickets are available for the passengers, at the end of platform (on the Waltax Road side) and at exclusive platform ticket counter near gate 5 at central station.
