The University Grants Commission has made a series of recommendations regarding the academic courses and related activities.
As the 12th Standard Public Examinations under the CBSE and other syllabus are still to be conducted, a special committee formed by the University Grants Commission has recommended that a common examination may be conducted at the national or state level and based on this, admissions may be given to pursue higher education in colleges/universities.
Due to present lockdown imposition as a preventive action against the spreading of the raging coronavirus pandemic, the major public examinations conducted by the central and state governments under various syllabus could not be conducted.
But the new academic year has almost neared! To analyze, review this situation and make suitable recommendations, a 12-member committee, presided by the former vice-chancellor of Haryana Central University, Mr. Guhat. This committee has made its recommendations to the University Grants Commission (UGC).
As per this recommendation, the protection, safety of all college students, staff, and the faculties are of utmost importance, and safety must be ensured.
The syllabus and the draft syllabus must be finalized and the examinations must be conducted as planned and the results must be released.
The students of the colleges and universities must be deemed to have attended colleges during the period of vacation declared due to lockdown imposition and so MUST BE ALLOWED TO WRITE THE EXAMINATIONS!
The duration of the examinations, to be conducted after the lockdown is withdrawn, may be reduced from 3 hours per subject to 2 hours. The marks for the examinations may be revised suitably and examinations may be conducted. Further, examinations may also be conducted online and also be conducted as per the OMR system wherever scope is available.
In the coming academic year and the subsequent academic years, colleges and universities may function 6-days a week.
Further, except for the final year examinations, the students of the 1st and 2nd year may be permitted to write ‘open book’ examinations.
For the 1st and 2nd year students, 50% of the marks may be adjudged based on the internal assessment for the previous semester and the balance 50% may be based on the marks obtained in the previous semester examination.
The semester examinations for the current academic year may be conducted in July and the classes may be commenced in August. The Public Examinations for the 12th Standard is yet to be conducted in several states s in the country.
So, in order to give admission to the above students in colleges/universities, a common examination may be conducted at the national or state level and admissions may be done based on the performance in this common examination.
The above details are the recommendations made by the special committee from UGC under the leadership of Guhat (former vice-chancellor - Haryana Central University).
