For those who have thought that GCC has even made changes in the home quarantine rules, here is an important piece of information.

The GCC has made it clear that it has only relaxed the process for getting e-passes but not made any changes in the home quarantine rules till now. It was mentioned by an official belonging to Chennai Corporation that the government has relaxed only the process to avail e-passes but not home quarantine.

Fact here is those persons who are coming to Chennai from other places must be compulsorily under home quarantine for a period of 14 days.

He spoke about how after receiving the applications, e-passes get approved immediately. It must be noted that the details of those persons returning to Chennai are being stored in the server automatically.

Mr. Harmander Singh, municipal administration and water supply department secretary, gave instructions to the civic body officials about monitoring the returnees and home quarantining them. He took part in a meeting at the Ripon Buildings on Wednesday and the meeting also saw the presence of health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan and other officials belonging to the corporation.

Information about those coming to Chennai city must be sent by the zonal officers to field level officials to make sure that home quarantine is followed compulsorily.

It is now expected that a large number of people from other districts would be coming to zones like Valasaravakkam and Teynampet. Hence, civic officials were asked to keep an eye on these 2 zones of GCC.

It is important to note that a large number of guest workers are expected to come to zones like Ambattur and Adyar that have industrial estates.  More than 28,000 applications have been approved by GCC on Tuesday and Wednesday. Information collected is these were the first 2 days since the relaxation of e-passes came into effect.
