Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa convened a meeting comprising of senior officials to look into the much delayed monorail project. The AIADMK government had announced the project in 2011 but it has faced hurdles since then.
Sources said, ‘Ms Jayalalithaa, concerned over the delay of the much-needed project, directed officials to expedite the tendering process chairing a meeting at the secretariat Thursday morning. She was keen on clearing the hurdles impeding the Rs 8, 500 crore project to pave the way for the mega transportation project to take off… Interestingly, only two out of the five consortiums (that had been approached for the project) had expressed their keenness by purchasing the draft RFP that costs up to several lakh rupees. The RFP document encompasses complete details of the project including number of stations, train frequency, fare
structure among other details that would help them to submit their bids.’
