Last mile connectivity has been an issue for many metro train commuters and CMRL has now provided a solution for this. For the flat amount of Rs 10, share auto rickshaws would be operated from metro stations in Chennai to help the commuters to reach their destinations. Point is that CMRL has just resumed the operation of shared autos now.

It was later brought to light by an official belonging to CMRL that the share autos have started to operate in metro stations in Koyambedu, Thirumangalam, Ekkattuthangal,Alandur, St. Thomas Mount, Little Mount, Ashok Nagar and Guindy etc. These shared autos would be operated from 8am to 8pm every day for the sake of the commuters.

Thirumangalam and Guindy metro stations have more footfalls and therefore as many as4 shared autos would operate in these stations. Other metro stations would have just 2 share autos operating to provide last mile connectivity. This shared autos facility would be extended to other metro stations also. As per an official of CMRL, the footfalls have increased from 10,000 to 55,000 and now to 75,000 per day. He added that more people would use metro trains only when affordable last mile connectivity was provided to them. He concluded that though vehicle routes were limited they would link important stations. It must be noted that Guindy and Alandur vehicles would ply to MIOT, CTC, DLF IT Park etc.

In the same way, there would be shared autos from St Thomas Mount metro station to junctions like Thillai Ganga Nagar, Nanganallur Anjaneyar Temple, Vanuvampet junction, Puzhuthivakkam railway station and Velachery MRTS station etc. For every half hour, there would be shared auto facilities available for the commuters.

It is superb to note that the commuters would be able to get down or board the shared autos anywhere along the route and they could pay the amount in cash.
