Chief Qazi to the state government, Moulana Mufti Salahuddin Mohammed Ayub has mentioned that Ramzan, the holy month of fasting, will begin on Thursday, with the moon being sighted. Muslim community will spend 30 days in prayers along with exotic feast on breaking the fast at dusk.
The month-long fasting will culminate in Id-ul-fitra celebration on August 10.Ramzan is considered most pious amongst other months as the holy book `The Quran` was revealed by Allah to prophet Mohammed during his life at holy land of Mecca and Medina. The `Quran` guides Muslims to offer special prayers during the month called `Taraveeh` during which long portions of the Quran are recited. The community also gives `zakat` or charity based on one’s accumulated wealth and the one who does not do so is considered a sinner.
