Secretary of the Anna Workers and Staff Union Rama Udayakumar read out a fax message from Jayalalithaa appealing to the employees to withdraw the strike and report for duty. The Joint Action Council of 13 trade unions, spearheading the strike since 3 July, held a meeting and announced the decision to withdraw the agitation. The employees rushed to their work spots the moment they heard the news that the Tamilnadu government had clinched the deal with the SEBI on the purchase of five per cent of NLC shares on offer on Monday.
After a while they burst firecrackers and distributed sweets at important road junctions and commercial places in the Neyveli Township.
