If you have gone to western suburbs of Chennai, then you would have noticed that the phase-2 of the metro rail project has started to take shape amidst the noise, dust, heavy traffic etc. Pillars have been constructed to support an elevated corridor on the 3km stretch between Porur and Poonamallee.

It is revealed that the CMRL has set June 2025 as the deadline for Powerhouse in Kodambakkam to Poonamallee stretch through Vadapalani and Porur and December month 2025 for remaining of the corridor belonging to phase-2 of the metro rail project.

At the centre of the Mount-Poonamallee Road near Porur Lake, pillars have been constructed towards Valasaravakkam and iyyappanthangal on an approximately 3km stretch. This was mentioned by some officials belonging to CMRL. Reinforcing bars to build up concrete pillars are being laid in some locations. This site has been prepared for construction by the workers on Tuesday .The traffic was brought to halt as sturdy iron bars were brought to this place. To excavate the soil for the pillar construction near Vadapalani, piling rings were operated. In the peak hours in the localities like Porur, Vadapalani and Kodambakkam etc, vehicles were seen moving very slowly.  On the 16km stretch from Powerhouse station at Kodambakkam to Ponnamallee bypass through Vadapalani & Porur, 2 contractors are constructing an elevated corridor with 18 stations and this stretch forms a part of 26.1km LightHouse to Poonamallee bypass corridor.

An engineer at the construction site in Porur spoke about how pillars have been constructed on an approximately 500m stretch till now from Porur to Valasaravakkam. He added that the remaining portion has been built from Porur to Ponnamallee by another contractor. Information is that in January the first girder that would be placed on the pillars as the main horizontal structures was cast in a yard in Poonamallee.
