Exhibition on biodiversity in Chennai

Science Express, a 16-coach air conditioned train featuring an exhibition on biodiversity is being organized by the department of science and technology and ministry of environment and forests, the exhibition was launched in 2007.

This coach will reach Chennai Central railway station on July 27.It will be stationed at the Central for four days. The exhibition aims at creating awareness among various sections of society, especially among the students, on the unique biodiversity of the country, climate change and related issues.

Eight coaches of the train are solely dedicated to bio-geographical zones such as the Himalayas, the Gangetic Plain, the Western Ghats and so on. One coach has an exhibition on climate change, another on `Way towards safe, secure and sustainable environment` and yet another on energy conservation. 

A `kids zone` on another coach will give children an opportunity to enjoy fun-filled activities, games and puzzles in science, mathematics and environment. Students can perform various experiments in `Joy of Science` lab put up on another coach. A discussion centre-cum-training facility is provided for teachers.

The exhibition will be on from 10am to 5pm and entry is free.The train will travel to Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Kudal Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Alapuzha, Coimbatore, Kozhikode and Kannur.
