Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has issued notice to2665 buildings under construction in the city areas under GCC jurisdiction violating the rules and regulations!
The notice warns the concerned builders/owners that immediate stringent legal action will be taken if the construction continues!
Greater Chennai Corporation gives permission to construct a variety of buildings in the areas under its jurisdiction. The areas include the permission by GCC to the buildings constructed by CMDA (Chennai Metro Development Authority) , multistoried buildings, and building complexes.
Apart from the permission to construct buildings, Greater Chennai Corporation also gives permission for the following:
6-storeyed Apartments under 9 meters in height (Ground Floor, vehicle parking, and 2 more floors)
- Commercial Buildings not exceeding an area of 300 sq meters (with ground floor, first floor, vehicle parking and second floor/third floor)
- Industrial/organizations buildings not exceeding the height of 15.25 meters OR
- Residential buildings not exceeding 20000 sq meters
- Integrated buildings/plots under joint agreements
Those who get permission from the Greater Chennai Corporation to construct buildings must strictly follow the dimensions indicated in the permission document!
In case there are detections of constructions violating the rules, notice will be issued to the construction owners.
Further, in case of the absence of details and documents required, notice will be sent to seal the construction!
In case explanations is not given within the time indicated in the notice, the constructions will be sealed by GCC!
On the basis of the above regulations, a sudden full-fl; the edged survey was undertaken by Greater Chennai Corporation from 25th to 28th August in the 15 zones under GCC jurisdiction by GCC Assistant Engineers. As per this survey, notice has been issued to 2665 constructions that were detected violating the GCC Rules & Regulations.
Subsequently, notice was given to concerned building/construction owners to stop the construction.
In this status, if corrective actions for the violations are not undertaken within the given time limit, for the 2403 building owners, notice has been issued to seal the premises.
Moreover, 39 buildings have been sealed!
After this, Greater Chennai Corporation officials are constantly surveying the building under construction in areas under its jurisdiction!
As such, Greater Chennai Corporation has warned the public and the builders to strictly follow the rules and regulations for construction OTHERWISE, ACTION WILL BE INITIATED TO SEAL THEM!
