For the preparation of a vision document for the Third Master Plan 2027 to 2046, CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority would be consulting the residents belonging to the 28 Assembly constituencies of the CMA or Chennai Metropolitan Area. This CMA covers an area of 1189 sq km is known.
In the expanded areas of CMPA or Chennai Metropolitan Planning Area, a regional planning approach would be adopted and it will be integrated with the Third Master Plan. It must be noted that the expansion of the metropolitan planning area would be notified soon. Now, the master plan efforts are focussed on the existing CMA only
For the vision document preparation, the process of stakeholder engagement was started by the housing and urban development minister Mr. S. Muthuswamy yesterday. To solicit the views of several stakeholders in Chennai, CMDA has also launched a workshop and consultation yesterday.
It is now said that the stakeholders including the residents have been requested to provide their opinions online at http://cmavision.in. The resident`s perception on the future vision of CMA would be known to CMDA by this. It must be noted that the residents would be able to give their suggestions to the officers during the public consultations.
To get suggestions from the Chennai residents, the officers from CMDA would be going to every village present in the Chennai Metropolitan Area. This was mentioned by the housing and urban development minister. He added that the views of the residents were very important as they would be innovative for urban planning. He then spoke about how there is a need to widen arterial roads like Anna Salai etc in Chennai. Point is that the master plan would help in planned urban development in the newly developing areas. This would prevent further widening of the roads in the future.
