Vegetable Prices tumble down at Chennai Koyambedu wholesale market: Due to excess quantity arrival & persistent rain!

There had been persistent rains in Chennai Metro City right since the 24th of December night! Further, the number of vegetables arriving at the Chennai Metro City Koyambedu wholesale vegetable, fruit, and flower market from other districts and states had increased by a good margin! As such, with excess quantity, the price of the vegetables came down!

Yesterday (Sunday, 25th December) morning, around 6200 tons of vegetables arrived by 600 trucks at the Koyambedu wholesale market.

In this situation, it had been raining persistently in Chennai Metro City and its adjacent suburban areas right from the 24th of December night!

As such, 1 kg of tomato was sold at Rs. 20 instead of Rs. 40/-. Naveen Tomato was sold at Rs. 13/- instead of Rs. 30/-. The carrot was sold at Rs. 10/- per kg instead of Rs. 40/-.

Cabbage was sold at 6 Rs. 5/- in place of Rs. 20/- per kg! Green peas were sold at Rs. 25/- per kg instead of Rs. 125/-! Chow-Chow and radish were sold at Rs. 10/- per kg instead of Rs. 20/-.

Okra (Lady`s finger - vendaikkaai) was sold at Rs. 25/- instead of Rs. 45/- per kg! Brinjal was sold at Rs. 15/- per kg in place of Rs. 30/-. Beetroot was sold at Rs. 15/- per kg in place of Rs. 30/-.  Lemon was sold at Rs. 30/- per kg in place of Rs. 90/-!

In this regard, the President of the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Retail and wholesale Traders` Association, S. S Muthukumar shared:

"It had been persistently raining in Chennai Metro City from the 24th of December night. As such, most of the traders and retail sellers from the urban and suburban markets could not reach Koyambedu to buy vegetables!

As such, the prices of vegetables came down substantially and the retail traders who arrived bought the vegetables at lower prices with great delight! This trend of lower prices has caused anguish among the Koyambedu vegetable traders!"
