Soon, travelling in a sleeper coach on long distance trains with just a normal ticket without any fine could become a reality!!
The news is that the Indian Railways or IR have been working on a plan to allow the passengers to travel in the sleeper coaches of long distance trains with just normal tickets without any penalty.
It must be noted that in the current winter season the passengers opt for air-conditioned coaches instead of sleeper coaches. The reason for this is fully sealed a/c units would be able to maintain normal temperatures and extreme cold outside would not be able to penetrate inside the coach. As a result, many seats in the coaches having bed facilities remain vacant. As the passengers prefer air-conditioned coaches mostly, the sleeper coaches remain empty only. Now, more people travel in the common coach.
In this scenario, the IR has been thinking about permitting those with ordinary or normal tickets to travel in sleeper coaches in the long distance trains. Information is that the Railway Board has directed all the railway zones to collect the details of trains having sleeping facilities that fill up just 80% of the total capacity of seats.
Coaches with bed facilities to be converted into normal coaches:
It was brought out by some railway authorities that railway coaches with bed facilities that are not full would be converted into general coaches in the long distance trains.
It must be recalled that during the Coronavirus pandemic many sleeper coaches were converted into the general coaches for treating the public who have been affected with the Covid infection. Point is that earlier the Mid East Zonal Railway was the first to implement this scheme and due to that many passengers benefited. The scheme would be implemented again in the long distance trains and it would be of huge benefit for many passengers.
