The project of laying new roads in Chennai Metro City, costing Rs. 367.80 Crores, is progressing at full speed. The roads within the jurisdiction of the Greater Chennai Corporation in the 15 Zones are being renovated under the `Singara Chennai 2.0,` the Tamil Nadu Urban Roads Infrastructure Act, and the Urban Development Scheme-1.
Tenders were sought for 3108 interior roads, costing Rs. 291.90, and 87 bus transport roads, costing Rs. 76.56. The contract has been signed, and the project activities have commenced. In the first phase of this project, road-laying has started for 28 new bus transport roads, costing Rs. 18 Crores. Work on 15 roads has been completed, costing Rs. 8.39 Cores. Road-laying for 7 roads, costing Rs. 6.13 Crores, is currently underway, and the remaining 6 roads will be laid for Rs. 3.47 Crores.
The project of laying 997 interior roads, costing Rs. 89.07 Crores, has commenced, and so far, 296 interior roads have been laid, costing Rs. 26.85 Crores. Subsequently, the laying of 414 interior roads, costing Rs. 35.79 Crores, is in progress. The remaining 287 Interior Roads will be laid for Rs. 26.43 Crores.
Tenders have been sought for laying 414 interior roads, costing Rs. 41.11 Crores, and 30 bus transport roads, costing Rs. 31.33 Crores, and the Project execution Orders have been given. These projects are scheduled to commence shortly.
In addition, the laying of 1697 Interior Roads, costing Rs. 161.11 Crores, and 29 Bus Roads, costing Rs. 27.23 Crores, has also been taken up, and tenders have been floated. The Greater Chennai Corporation recently released a notification containing the above information.
