The Chennai Metro Rail administration has announced an increase in train services on the Alandur-Washermanpet corridor due to a steady rise in passenger numbers.
Chennai Metro Rail operates on two corridors in Chennai: Chennai Airport-WIMCO Nagar and St. Thomas Mount (Parangimalai)-Chennai Central, covering a distance of 54 km.
Approximately 2.50 lakh passengers use these services daily, with a surge during peak hours in the mornings and evenings.
Chennai Metro Rail has been implementing various initiatives to improve passenger facilities and amenities, resulting in a daily increase in the number of passengers.
Given the high passenger volume on the Alandur-Washermanpet corridor, there has been a demand to increase the number of train services. Officials in this section conducted a survey and subsequently announced an increase in train services.
The Chennai Metro Officials stated, "20 services have been added as there has been a substantial increase in passengers on the Alandur-Washermanpet corridor since 1st May. Most trains on this corridor operate every 3 minutes. If there is demand, we will initiate activities to increase services on the Chennai Central-Airport corridor as well!"
