It is learnt that the rain gauges could either be a simple gauge to measure the amount of rainfall or an advanced forecasting device. This would depend on the area`s relevance to the weather related position. Mr. Balachandran explained that these days most of the government departments have started their own measuring or forecasting stations based on the requirements.

Few years back, the director of disaster management dept Mr.K S. Kandasamy had announced similar measures in the state of TN is known.

Recently, TANUVAS or TN University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences had organised an awareness programme and Mr. S. Blachandran made his presence felt in Vellore for this. Point is that he advised the farmers to use weather forecasts to successfully plan their agricultural works.

Sector-specific weather forecasts available:

Mr. S. Balachnadran spoke about how sector-specific weather forecasts are being available now from IMD. This would be of a huge benefit for the farmers as all their farming works from raising nurseries to final harvesting would benefit through the prediction.

The inclement weather would not create any issue for the farmers as they would be able to plan well. Finally, he threw light on how the rainfall in TN and Pondicherry was below 9% of the average quantum.
