Chennai`s Metropolitan Traffic Police Department has issued a crucial notification regarding new speed limits, set to be enforced starting November 4. These measures aim to enhance road safety, reduce accidents, and improve traffic management in the city.

New Speed Limits:

- Light Vehicles: Light vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles, are mandated to adhere to a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour, ensuring safer driving practices on Chennai`s roads.

- Heavy Vehicles: Heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, will be limited to a maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour.

- Auto-rickshaws: Auto-rickshaws, a common mode of transportation in Chennai, will be required to travel at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

- Residential Areas: In residential areas, all types of vehicles will have a uniform speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour. This is intended to protect residents and reduce the risk of accidents in community-centric zones.

Enforcement Uncertainty:

While the notification provides clarity on the new speed limits, it remains silent on the consequences for those who fail to comply with these regulations.

As November 4 approaches, it is imperative for both residents and commuters to stay well-informed about these changes and strictly adhere to the specified speed limits. Keep an eye out for future updates on how the authorities plan to enforce these rules and what penalties may be imposed on violators, as this will be essential in ensuring road safety and a smoother traffic experience in Chennai.
