To ensure the safety of passengers during the Diwali season, Railway S.P. Sukuna Singh conducted inspections at Chennai Central Railway Station, focusing on preventing the carriage of firecrackers on trains.

Singh, addressing reporters, highlighted the proactive security measures implemented ahead of Diwali. A total of 1,300 policemen are deployed across 245 railway stations in Tamil Nadu to maintain security. Major cities` railway stations receive 24-hour rotational police security.

Passengers caught carrying firecrackers in violation of the train ban will face a hefty Rs. 5,000 fine. To enhance safety for women and children, women police officers are stationed on electric trains. Notably, three individuals were apprehended for theft on the 7th alone.

Concerned about potential robberies during the festive period, Singh mentioned the formation of special teams at Central and Egmore railway stations to monitor and address such incidents.

In addition, fines have been increased to deter non-reserved passengers from occupying reserved coaches. Passengers can report such instances by contacting 1512 to lodge complaints. These measures collectively aim to ensure a secure and hassle-free travel experience for commuters during the Diwali celebrations.
