Due to ongoing restoration efforts at government and aided schools in Chennai and neighboring districts following Cyclone Michaung, the school education department has decided to postpone half-yearly exams for all classes. Schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur will reopen on Monday after being closed for a week due to the cyclone. The exams for classes 1 to 5 have been rescheduled from December 13 to December 22, starting with the language paper. Classes 6 to 12 will also have their half-yearly exams during the same period.

Heavy rainfall and flooding forced the closure of schools from December 4 to 9, impacting students in various ways, including the loss of books, notebooks, and uniforms. To address this, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 1.90 crore for restoration works, with specific amounts earmarked for Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts. Seventeen education department officials have been assigned to monitor restoration efforts across the four districts. Following the reopening of schools, each institution will assess students who have lost materials and provide necessary support on December 11 and 12.
