Chaos ensued on Wednesday as a level-crossing gate near Singaperumal railway station suffered damage, leading to a halt in suburban train services on the Chengalpattu-Chennai Beach section. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when a container truck passing through level crossing no. 47 inadvertently caused the malfunction of the automatic level crossing signal.
Three suburban trains, en route from Thirumalpur towards Tambaram and Chennai Beach, were affected by the non-functioning gate, inconveniencing a substantial number of commuters, including office-goers from Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu.
Southern Railway`s maintenance staff promptly responded to the scene, working diligently to repair the damaged level crossing gate. Despite the struggle, normal train services resumed within an hour, by 10 a.m.
A case has been filed by the Chengalpattu Government Railway Police, who have initiated an investigation into the incident. The timely response from railway officials underscores the commitment to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of suburban train services in the region.
