Traffic Diversions in Chennai for IPL Cricket Matches

 In preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) have announced significant traffic diversions. These diversions will be enforced on April 8, 23, and 28, as well as on May 1, 12, 25, and 26.

Duration of Diversions:
For six of the matches, the diversions will be active from 5 p.m. to 11 a.m. On May 12, they will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Diversions Overview:

  • - Victoria Hostel Road and Bells Road will be made one-way, with entry prohibited from Wallajah Road.

MTC Bus Diversions:

  • - MTC buses originating from Kannagi Statue will be diverted at Bharathi Salai-Bells Road junction, directed towards the Ratna Cafe junction and Triplicane High Road.
  • - Vehicles from Rathna Cafe junction, heading for Kannagi Statue, will be rerouted via Bharathi Salai-Bells Road junction to Bells Road and Wallajah Road.

Parking and Passes:

  • - Vehicles with passes for the M, T, and V stands will not be permitted on Bells Road. Instead, they will be diverted towards Labour Statue, Kamarajar Salai, Kannagi Statue, and Bharathi Salai for parking.
  • - Vehicles with passes for the B and R stands,s, approaching from Anna Salai towards Wallajah Road, will be directed to park at the Pattabhiram gate and Chepauk MRTS station.
  • - Vehicles without passes, arriving from Anna Salai and Gandhi Statue, will be diverted to Wallajah Road, Labour Statue, and Kamarajar Salai for parking on Foreshore Service Road.

These measures aim to streamline traffic flow and ensure smooth travel during the IPL matches. Motorists and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and adhere to the specified diversions for a hassle-free experience.
