The Kathipara junction in Chennai is set to undergo significant changes as Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) prepares to commence construction on the Phase II viaduct. This phase of the project will see the integration of the new network with the existing Phase I system, presenting challenges to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
CMRL has obtained necessary clearances from regulatory authorities such as the Commissioner of Railway Safety and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to proceed with construction. Given the proximity of the Phase II viaduct to existing structures and the airport`s flight path, construction activities must adhere to strict height restrictions to avoid any interference.
Approval for construction adjacent to the Phase I viaduct has also been secured, with work scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize disruptions to passenger services. Once completed, this phase of the project will enhance connectivity between various parts of the city, facilitating easier travel for residents and commuters.
In addition to the Kathipara junction development, progress is being made on other corridors of the Phase II network, including corridor 4 (Light House to Poonamallee) and corridor 3 (Madhavaram to SIPCOT via Thirumayilai).
