Tambaram railway station has resumed operations after a month-long renovation that started on July 23. The upgrades include wider platforms, new seating arrangements, and an extension to accommodate 24 coaches. Modern facilities such as a new foot-overbridge and upgraded tracks have been added, allowing trains to now run at 50 km/h instead of the previous 15 km/h.
Although the major renovation work is complete, some minor tasks remain. Commuters have requested that these be finished on weekends and holidays to avoid disrupting weekday services. The station, a key hub for suburban and long-distance trains in Chennai, has resumed EMU and express train services as of Monday. Platforms 7 and 8 have been extended, and battery-operated vehicles will now operate on these platforms. New platforms 9 and 10 will be operational in a few weeks.
