The Phase 2 Metro Rail Project in Chennai spans 116.1 km and is remotely operated across three channels, including the 45.4 km line from Madhavaram-Siruseri to SIPCOT. This line features 28 underground and 19 elevated stations.
Tunneling for Route 3 began on September 9 last year from Chetpet station towards Sterling Road. The mining machine, Siruvani, has successfully completed a 703-meter tunnel from Chetpet to Sterling Road.
Currently, tunneling is advancing with a second boring machine. Officials report that 468 meters of tunnel have been completed between Chetpet and Sterling Road, with progress of 3 to 4 meters daily. The project is expected to finish by November.
